A Dino Day Out!

We recently took the girls to Blackpool Zoo with our Tesco points, - they always come in handy! It had been planned a while but we never actually got time to go until a couple of weeks ago.

The girls love animals especially giraffes so they were very excited at the thought of seeing them, and all the other animals.

We arrived quite early so there was no queue which is always a bonus after a long drive, the reception is really welcoming as are the staff.

Our first impression of the animal enclosures wasn't great as we first saw the giant tortoises but the fountain etc hadn't be turned on so it just looked a bit sad. It may just be because it wasn't peak season, but still would have been nice to see.

We made our way to the dinosaur park which we didn't know they had, this was an extra bonus and possible my girls favourite part as they have recently got into dinosaurs. Some of the dinosaurs would move and make sounds which was great for the girls as they couldn't quite work out if they were real or not!

We had a great time at the playground too, with all different age ranges catered for, and a small cafe serving hot drinks and ice creams.
The petting farm was good too but unsupervised by any staff which meant it was a bit crazy round the animal pens, and some of the animals looked stressed.
We did however get to stroke two lovely pigs, one of them was so desperate for a stroke it ran the length of the field!

After the petting farm we went on the little train that takes you round the zoo, it was really cheap and the girls loved sitting on the little steam train.
My youngest fell before we went on the train so we went to get some first aid, the staff were fantastic in the shop and kept our eldest entertained talking to her about all the different animals. It really makes a huge difference when your waiting to know your children are entertained!

Overall a great day out and as its only small it works much better for younger children. Theres a range of activities such as a bouncy castle and crazy golf for a small fee which is refreshing after so many family days out seem to charge the earth!
