The other day I asked my hubby for some help, he replied with 'No I am cooking some toast' to which I replied 'WHAT!' and this is the reply I got... 'You like cold toast and I don't so I cant help because it will be ready in a few minutes, or it will go cold'
I realised my hubby has probably only ever seen me eat cold toast or soggy cereal. I feel this may be due to the two small children we have.
So a few pointers for in the future..
Mummies don't like cold toast, cold coffee/tea, cold baths, cold breakfast, lunch or tea.
I can totally understand how this can be misunderstood, usually by the time we have fed the children, got their puddings, cleaned them up and then settled them to play our drink or any food we wanted is usually cold. But this is not how we prefer to eat our food or drink our drinks!
A few things Mummy's do love: Hot food, hot baths, a lovely foamy cappuccino, but most of all we love our children.
Which is why we put up with having cold toast, tea etc.
Because one day when our children have grown up and moved out we can sit and enjoy all our meals straight from the oven, our coffee freshly brewed and a bath without having to share it. We can sit back and remember the days of rushing round and not getting anything to eat until at least two hours after the children have eaten, throwing your coffee in the microwave and then forgetting all about it.
This also got me thinking about my 3yr old and how much she has grown.
I spent the morning with my 3yr old today at her new nursery school, they were having an open day. I always knew this would be an emotional day but I spent most of the morning on the brink of tears at my first baby girl growing up and moving on from her current private nursery. Her confidence has grown so so much since she started there and her new knowledge of the world around her is astounding.
This morning she was still a bit shy but soon settled in and was off, talking to other children and playing. Only a few times she asked me to come and join in.
My 3yr old is already starting to need me less and less, her confidence and her ability to carry out things by herself is brilliant and I am glad she feels that she can do it herself.
My 16 month old is also starting to get more independent, copying her sister by putting shoes on, hats on and attempting to put coats on. She is starting to use her spoon more rather than diving in with her hands but still a way off. Each day she learns something new.
Some days I can sneak in a cheeky hot coffee and get to finish it whilst its hot but I have to choose my time wisely and it totally depends on the toys out and my children's moods. Already I can enjoy a little escape while they play together, they both already need me less.
I know its a long, long way off but one day I will look back and miss these chaotic days so much.
I am going to enjoy my cold toast and coffee, as they will soon be gone and my children grown.
